At 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 18, 2026,
as part of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 33’s continuing effort to honor local
heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice in war, Post 33 is hosting a ‘Trestle
Dedication Ceremony’ at the Greensburg Shopping Center, 400 East Pittsburgh
Street in Greensburg. During the ceremony, the Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad trestle
over East Pittsburgh Street will be named in honor of US Marine Corps Lance
Corporal Vincent Piscar Jr, who was 19 when he was killed in action in Vietnam
on July 19, 1968. The event is free and open to the public.

The ceremony will
include a military ‘Final Formation and Roll Call’, where all veterans of any
branch of the service will assemble in a formation.  As the Roll Call continues to Lance Corporal
Piscar and he doesn’t answer, the Post 33 Honor Guard will fire a three round
volley and play Taps.

While Lance Corporal
Piscar’s family unveils signs naming the trestle,and laying a wreath to recognize
all Westmoreland County Vietnam War heroes, everyone will sing the Marine Corps
Hymn. Local elected officials will present proclamations designating July 19 “US
Marine Corps Lance Corporal Vincent Piscar Jr Day’.
